皇后餅店 Queen’s Patisserie

Chinese malls and restaurants in Toronto, in general, like to name after the malls and restaurants in HK. (If you have been living in Hong Kong and Toronto for a period of time, you will know what I’m talking about.) It makes sense since a lots of Chinese people immigrated from HK to Canada in the 90s. Instead of coming up with a new name that’s easy to remember, borrowing an established one is much easier and safer. As more and more immigrants are coming from the PRC, the new trend would obviously be a replication of all the famous places in China.

Black ForestQuite a while ago, I’ve written about some Chinese bakeries in Toronto. Most of them do have their specialties (from what I’ve tried), but none of them is really appealing in terms of the layout and the general look and feel of their stores. Still remember the old days, I always like to go to the Queen’s Cafe/Konditorei in FestivalWalk in HK. Their Nougats are the best.

Mixed FruitAbout 2 months ago… (Yes… actually I kinda started this post, but didn’t finish it til now.) I bought 2 birthday cakes for my colleagues. It was actually a tough question if you ask me where to get a good cake. So that day I just went to the closest place that I could think of … the Queen’s Patisserie that was newly opened in Commerce Gate, Hwy7. The store was actually pretty small, but the layout was clean and modern compared to a lot of other Chinese bakeries. The lady there was very polite, helpful and sweet ^^ Another bonus was all the cakes and pastries were on special at that time because of the new opening. So, for half of the original price, which was around 10 bucks, we got the Black forest cake, and subsequently the mixed fruit cake from there. The cakes were OK, not too sweet. Good value.

Maybe I will try the pastries from this Queen’s another time.

Out of curiosity, I sent an email to the Queen’s Cafe in HK and tried to find out if there’s any connection between this Queen’s and that Queen’s. Unfortunately, I haven’t got any reply from them. I guess the answer might be NO.

There are many locations of the Queen’s Patisserie. You can look it up in the Yellow Page if you need the info. The one I went to was at Commerce Gate (505 Hwy 7, Richmond Hill, ON. L3T 7T1) Tel: 905-886-1823

  1. I’m actually not sure, but from my memory (I saw their poster with different locations) I don’t recall seeing any Mississauga location.
