Vacation 6 – Drinks & Other

Drink @ TST Cupid3 weeks = 21 days. I’m glad that during the trip I got to see a lot of old friends, especially a lot of my girl friends. It’s interesting how the composition of my friends have changed since I came to Toronto. During the primary-secondary school years in HK, I had quite an even split of girl/guy friends. We always hang out as a gang of 8 – 4/4 girls/guys. However, once I stepped onto the Canadian soil and continued my high school education, I find myself always hang out with guy friends. I have to say, these guys are great and they are great BBQ/trips organizers – they buy all the food, set up everything and boom. Of course, I do help out. (Yes, I’m not the kind of person who would just stand/sit there and not help out… Or maybe I should have done that ;p) Another pro’s of having lots of guy friends is that you get to sing more songs during K.

Back to my trip… As I’ve mentioned previously, I spent a lot of time walking around and shopping in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST). After 7-8 hours of walking, when I was totally exhausted, I went to my friend’s place – a pub on Minden Street, called Cupid. Still remember I was in HK 2 years ago when it just opened. It’s definitely a nice place to have a drink after work or shopping in a hot day. At the back, there’s also a private room where you can sing Karaoke. During the 21 days, I found myself consuming a lot of alcohol. Everytime I was at Cupid, I had at least 2-3 cocktails. Don’t even mention about clubbing… I had like 5 that night, with a long island ice tea at end, which was quite strong and caused a hangover for a few hours in the morning. From what I heard from my friend at the pub, she said people from the North America usually drink more. Well… I do agree with that to certain extent although that’s quite unhealthy.

Haagen-Dazs 1One mission of my trip was to try Haagen-Dazs’s red bean ice-cream. However, when I was in HK, Haagen-Dazs’s stores were already having a new promotion for the summer – berries ice-cream. As a result, I couldn’t find any red bean ice-cream in the stores. Therefore, I checked out the supermarkets, and finally got it from City’super for HKD24. YEAH! Finally I could try this “legendary” ice-cream (’cause I’ve heard about it so many time when I was in T.O.)

Haagen-Dazs 2

Since I’ve heard so much about it, I had high expectations for this ice-cream. As you can see it here. The look of it isn’t very appealing. I think it’s mainly because of its color. However, the taste was actually quite good. Not too too sweet and with good red bean flavour. Unlike most of the red bean ice-cream that you get here, I can see this one has more real stuffs in it. (although you can’t see any red beans here… there’s quite a lot if you dig deeper ;P)

But still… if you compare the actual ice-cream versus the one shown in the ad, there’s a huge difference! The one here looks 100 times better!!! Maybe the one I bought wasn’t fresh. -_- I took this picture @ APM, gosh… its cheaper from the vending machine!!!

  1. Marz….

Five drinks in one night is pretty good, since you do not drink a lot. If you ate lots of meat earlier in the day or several times that week, then some alcohol is good to break down the meat, just don’t mix the drinks!!!

    Remember…
    beer before liquor never sicker…
liquor before beer, have no fear!! 😛

  2. Hey Marz 🙂 I just went to the all-you-can-eat Japanese place called Wasabi by Pacific Mall. I am pretty sure you’ve been so I won’t get into it but I will use this as a 開場白 😛 What I really want to share is this HK independent band called “The Marshmallow Kisses”. I recently got hold of their song called “my dear giant” and was somewhat taken away by them. I don’t know if you are into inde. music, but for some reaon listening to their song reminded me of you, that is, the band and you both gave me the feeling of “Hey, this person has talent” be it music, writing or food (or maybe it’s just the internet factor ?). So yeah, look for their music if you are interested :] (or I can email you the track I have) Have a great day loh. Ciao.

  3. Hey Ray,
Wasabi…. that sounds kinda familiar to me, but I can’t remember how it was.

Yup I do listen to independent bands sometimes and I’ll definitely check them out! Thanks for recommending this to me. (Sometimes I feel I’m very lucky that I have friends who would introduce me to different types of music so that I can broaden my horizon! and… thanks for the compliment although I doubt if I can be compared to the band that is so talented. ;p )

    Hey bubu…. don’t cry, i’ll buy you ice-cream ;p
